2.  Welcome and general  blabbing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Happy  2009 y’all! Soon it’ll be the end of an error and you couldn’t find a
happy  folksinger than moi.
I’m  looking forward to some great gigs in Florida this month. I'm sharing
the bill  with some wonderful performers including Dave Potts and Scott Cossu in
 Pensacola; comics Karen Ripley and Michele Balan (Last Comic Standing) in
St. Petersburg Beach; and in Ft. Lauderdale, I'm singing with In Harmony, a
really great choral ensemble. The theme for that show is Going Places. We're
each doing our own set and then doing a couple of songs together. The St.
Pertersburg Beach gig is part of the Silver Threads gathering and while I'd love
to see you register for the whole event, you can buy tickets just for the show
if you'd like. Details above. Hope to  see you at a show!
3.  Please help me raise funds for my new album
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I need  a lot less than 700 billion and it’s not even a bail out. I didn’t
manufacture cars no one wanted or give my CEOs huge bonuses or private jets. I
AM the CEO and I drive a 2002 Toyota. If you can help me with my newest
album, I’d be very grateful, maybe even name my next cat after you. It’s easy.
Go to _www.jamieanderson.com_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/) and click on
the link on the home page that says “Help Jamie Put Out Her New Album.” It’ll
tell you how you can pay via PayPal or print out an order form and mail in a
check the old fashioned way. I’ll also have order forms at my shows.
I’ve got a ton of new songs and a great studio picked out PLUS Kara Barnard
will be joining me on that multitude of instruments that she plays. I’ll go
into the studio in late 2009 or early 2010. To say I’m excited about this
recording is a  gross understatement.

4. Got a Jamie Anderson CD you don’t want anymore?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maybe  you loaded the tunes onto your computer and you don’t want the actual
disc now?  Or you have a duplicate? Or you bought that recording for your
cousin then she  moved to Outer Mongolia? No fear, you can recycle the CD. Bring
the disc(s) to a  concert or send it to me, PO Box 15003, Durham, NC, 27704.
The disc needs to be  free of defects (every song plays well) and the cover must
have minimal wear.  I’ll credit you $2 for every disc you return. If you
bring it to a show I can  give you the cash then. If you mail it, your funds will
come via PayPal (so you  must have a PayPal account).
I got  this idea because I’ve been cleaning out my own CD collection. I found
some  sites on line that’ll buy CDs. They won’t buy CDs of many independents
so of  course, I entered in my name to see how much, um, I was worth. Most
would pay $2  for each Jamie Anderson disc so I thought, heck, I could pay that.
My fans have  a chance to recycle my CD, other fans have the chance to buy a
used CD (I’ll  have them at shows) AND it’ll put a little money in my pocket.
Everyone  benefits. Except those online sites. J
5.    Would  you be interested in buying a Jamie Anderson  DVD?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have the chance to put out a concert DVD of a recent show I did with Kara
Barnard. I’ve never put out a DVD though and I’m wondering if it’s worth the
cost. Is that something you might purchase? What would you expect to pay for
 it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6.     Free  Jamie Anderson tapes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Almost free – it’s a mere $2 for shipping. There’s no other cost for this
Drive All Night tape. It’s a great quality, it’s just that it’s a tape and
hard to sell these days. Be sure to let me know your name and address: office
at jamieanderson dot com. You can send a check for $2 to PO Box 15003, Durham,
NC, 27704 or use the paypal button at _www.jamieanderson.com/music.html_
(http://www.jamieanderson.com/music.html) . While you’re there,  download a few
free songs.

7. Looking for house concerts in PA, NY or MD
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you  have a living room or other space that seats 20 or more? I’m looking
for  something in eastern PA, NY (within a couple hours drive of NYC) or MD
for  March 20. There's no money up front (I take my fee from the money collected
at  the door) - you just need a good address book and enough friends who
might  come to the show. E me at office at jamieanderson dot com if you can  help.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
8. Looking for southern Ontario gigs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey  Canadians – do you know of a good venue in Ottawa, Toronto or somewhere
close?  All I need is a listening crowd (no noisy bars please) and someplace
where I can  charge an admission. I’d also love to do a house concert at your
place, provided  you can seat 20 or more. I'm looking at late March or early
April. Contact me if  you can help: office at jamieanderson dot com.
9.     _www.behindthename.com_ (http://www.behindthename.com/)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This website features the study and etymology of first names. How cool is
that?

10. The stories behind my songs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last  month I had a great time telling you about the story behind my song “
Too Busy  Being Blue.” This month I’ll tell you about “Dark  Chocolate.”
See,  there was this woman I REALLY liked. I hardly knew her but we’d been
out on one  date and I was so overcome with, um, longing (see how polite I can
be) that I  sat down with my guitar and started playing this passionate blues
lick and  singing over the top of it. I thought about that old saying that the
way to a  man’s heart is through his stomach and thought, hmm, I think the way
to a  woman’s heart is through her lips. The body parts flowed after that.
Not the  actual body parts. Well, come to think of it … never mind.
I sang  her the song after our second date. Some lesbians bring the U-Haul, I
write  songs.
It  wasn’t long after that that I set off to do a gig with my buddy Martie
van der  Voort. I was on stage doing a sound check and played a bit of the song
then  mumbled that it still didn’t have a title. Martie yells out “Dark
Chocolate!”
I wrote  the song in ’88. I liked it so much I put it on three recordings –
there's one  version on my first release Closer to Home, then another version
on Drive  All Night and Three Bridges. I get lots of requests for it and it’s
one of my  most downloaded songs on iTunes. I no longer associate it with one
woman – heck,  that was two girlfriends ago – but I still enjoy playing  it.
Is  there a Jamie Anderson song you’d like to know more about? Write to me
and maybe  I’ll cover it in a future newsletter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
11.  Song requests
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm  always happy to do requests but my memory stinks. If you email me ahead
of time  and tell me what song you'd like to hear and what show you'll be at,
I'll do my  best.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
12.  Mailing list business
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are on  this list because you signed up at a concert or went online and
signed yourself  up. If neither of those things happened then someone has
forwarded you this  newsletter. I do not add anyone without their permission nor is
this list sold  to anyone else. If you'd like to unsub, I'll cry but I won't
make you pay my  therapist bill. You can do it yourself at
_www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html) . Likewise
 if you'd like to change your address. Please  don't forward virus warnings,
news items, jokes or petitions.  With over 2,000 of you on this list it'd be
too much to keep up with the extra  mail. However, I love getting mail from
fans and answer when I can: tsunamiinc  at aol dot com.
13.  Ending quotes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How could I not mention Rick Warren? Here’s an excerpt from an interview,
followed by my TV girlfriend Rachel Maddow.
Rick Warren: Just because it seems natural doesn't mean it's best for you
or society. I'm naturally inclined to have sex with every beautiful woman I
see, but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. And why should I rein in
my natural impulses? And you say, well, because I have natural impulses
toward the same sex, I shouldn't have to rein 'em in; well, I disagree. I think
that's part of maturity. I think it's part of delayed gratification. I think
it's part of  character.

Rachel Maddow: See, if you can just wait long enough for that gay
gratification, eventually you might be able to delay away the gay. Maybe. Keep
talking, sir; you are making the job of making the case against you so much easier.
Warren doesn't have a shovel long enough to get him out of this hole. Happy
digging,  reverend.
