2. Welcome  and general  blabbing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lately  I’ve been going to the gym. The only way I can force myself to do the
same  motions over and over again is to have the right tune with the right
beat in my  headphones. Then I can fool myself into thinking I’m dancing. Yeah,
I could  dance too but I’d look pretty silly doing leaps in between the rows
of weight  machines. On second thought, I couldn’t look any more ridiculous
than the sweaty  grunting men bench pressing a thousand pounds or whatever.
This  last week I watched most of President Obama’s address to congress. I’d
rather  yank out my own teeth than listen to political speeches but damn. It’
s  so nice to have a president with an IQ higher than a potato.
I’ve  been at home this last month, doing my teaching thang. I’m headed for
the wilds  of New York and Pennsylvania soon. Details are above. Come out to
see me,  k?
3. Never Assume has been  re-issued
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My 1995 album, Never Assume, has been out of print for a few years but it’s
baaaaaack! You can get it at _www.cdbaby.com/cd/jamieanderson5_
(http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/jamieanderson5) . I’ll have it at shows too. It features “When
Cats Take Over the World,” Menstrual Tango” and more. Funny woman Lisa Koch
produced  it.

4. Please help me raise funds for my new album
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As you  can imagine, with this economy raising money has been slow. Keep in
mind that I  need a lot less than 700 billion. I didn’t manufacture cars no one
wanted or  give my CEOs huge bonuses or private jets. I AM the CEO and I
drive a 2002  Toyota.  If you can help me with my  newest album, I’d be very
grateful. It’s easy. Go to _www.jamieanderson.com_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/)
and click on the link on the home  page that says “Help Jamie Put Out Her New
Album.” It’ll tell you how you can  pay via PayPal or print out an order
form and mail in a check the old fashioned  way. I’ll also have order forms at my
shows.
I’ve  got a ton of new songs and a great studio picked out PLUS Kara Barnard
will be  joining me on that multitude of instruments that she plays. I’ll go
into the  studio in late this year or early next. To say I’m excited about this
recording  is a gross understatement.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
5. Gonga CD sale
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We  don’t usually sell CDs directly but for this gonga sale, we’ll make an
exception. Get any of my CDs (except  Three Bridges) for $5 off. AND with
every purchase you get a FREE Listen  CD. And even better? We’ll pay the postage.
U.S.  addresses only. Tell us what you want: tsunamiinc at aol dot com. You
can pay  via PayPal at that address. Or you can do it the old fashioned way and
mail a  check to PO Box 15003, Durham, NC, 27704.
Here’s  what’s on sale:
A  Promise of Light, $10
Drive  All Night, $10
Listen,  $10
Never  Assume, $10
(More  about each at http://jamieanderson.com/discography.html)
Don’t  forget, you get a FREE Listen CD with EVERY purchase AND we pay the
postage.
Now  ain’t that grand?
Sale  ends March 31, 2009.
Did I  mention the FREE CD? Oh? I did?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6. Free Jamie Anderson tapes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Almost  free – it’s a mere $2 for shipping. There’s no other cost for this
Drive All  Night tape. It’s a great quality, it’s just that it’s a tape and
hard to sell  these days. Be sure to let me know your name and address: office
at  jamieanderson dot com. You can send a check for $2 to PO Box 15003, Durham,
NC,  27704 or use the paypal button at _www.jamieanderson.com/music.html_
(http://www.jamieanderson.com/music.html) . While you’re there,  download a few
free songs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
7. Live in Ottawa? Want a concert in your living room?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey  Canadians – do you want a concert in your living room? (Or know of a
venue with  a listening crowd?) House concerts are easy – like giving a party
with live  music. There’s no money up front – all of my pay comes from
admission. You’d  just need at least 20 people to come. I’ve got Friday, April 3 open.
Contact me  if you can help: office at jamieanderson dot com.
8. CarTalk played me again!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Didja hear “(I Wanna) Drive” on CarTalk this last weekend? Here’s the
proof:
_http://cartalk.com/ct/searchMusic.jsp_
(http://cartalk.com/ct/searchMusic.jsp)
Scroll about halfway down and you'll see it listed. Right above is a song
from my friends The Tranzenders. How very cool is that?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
9. www.MySpace.com/jamieandersonmusic – please be my  friend!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I feel like I’m back in the 6th grade whenever I ask that but really, I
mean it.

10. Hear my performance on RadioLive
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
_http://wuwf.org/radiolive/rlisten.shtml_
(http://wuwf.org/radiolive/rlisten.shtml)
Scroll  down to the January 8 show.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
11. Play my music on Folk Alley and help me chart
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Folk  Alley is a great on-line radio station that plays folk music 24/7. A
few of my  songs are in the open mic section. Please give them a listen and help
me move up  on their charts. With enough plays they might put me on their
regular  playlist.
12. The stories behind my  songs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last month I had a great time telling you about the story behind my song “My
Dad Loves to Sing.” This month I’m going to blab about “Drive All Night.”
It appears on my latest release Three Bridges and also on the CD with the
same  title.
I was fooling around in a drop D tuning (DADGBE for you guitar geeks) and
found a cool chord progression. Most of my upbeat songs are funny tunes so I
thought I’d take a stab at writing something serious. Maybe even a love song. I’
ve got a ton of lust songs but nothing I could sing in polite company. I
thought driving was a good metaphor for feeling safe with someone. You know,
zooming-through-the-cocoon-of-night-with-your-sweetie kind of safe? One of my
favorite Cheryl Wheeler songs, “Arrow,” talks about seeing someone in the blue
 TV light and I thought, “I love how someone looks in the glow of the
dashboard lights.” So I put that in there too.
I almost didn’t record the song. Heck, I almost didn’t perform it but my CD
 producer, Jim Henry, liked it and he had good taste so I took his advice. We
 slapped a happy mandolin on it and viola! Love song. And not a funny one.
I open most of my shows with this song ‘cause it gets me off on the right
foot. Er,  tire. Whatever.
CarTalk has played it twice. Don’t tell them it isn’t about driving.
There’s a great cartoon video of this song on the home page at
_www.jamieanderson.com_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/) . It’s also at
_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCRSEu4cFfk_ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCRSEu4cFfk)
Is there a Jamie Anderson song you’d like to know more about? Write to me
and maybe I’ll cover it in a future newsletter.

13.  Mailing list business
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You  are on this list because you signed up at a concert or went online and
signed  yourself up. If neither of those things happened then someone has
forwarded you  this newsletter. I do not add anyone without their permission nor is
this list  sold to anyone else. If you'd like to unsub, I'll cry but I won't
make you pay  my therapist bill. You can do it yourself at
_www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html) . Likewise
 if you'd like to change your address. Please  don't forward virus warnings,
news items, jokes or petitions.  With over 2,000 of you on this list it'd be
too much to keep up with the extra  mail. However, I love getting mail from
fans and answer when I can: tsunamiinc  at aol dot com.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
14. Ending quotes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I  got these from Jon Winokur’s column in the Funny Times
(_www.funnytimes.com_ (http://www.funnytimes.com/) ).
“When  I die, I’m going to leave my body to science fiction.” – Steven
Wright
“There  will be sex after death. We just won’t be able to feel it.” – Lily
Tomlin
“I  don’t believe in dying. It’s been done.” – George  Burns
Maybe  I need to write a happy song about death.
Happy  March, everyone! I hope to see you at a show --
-- Jamie
