2. Welcome and general blabbing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hot damn did I have fun on my Florida tour. First, I had the wisdom to book
a Florida tour in January when temps at home were in the teens. Second, the
gigs were good. I mean, really good. Like, I had a great time connecting with
all of you as well as other performers. In Pensacola I jammed with violin
player Mark Russell and darlin’, he burned it up on “Her Problem Now.” In the
past I’ve fallen to my knees with the work that Kara Barnard does on that one
and I had to do it again with him. He got on his knees too and didn’t miss a
note. The others were great too, with Scott Cossu and Dave Potts rounding
out the bill. Scott couldn’t believe he was following “cat hawking” – yes I
did the cat song – and brought it up repeatedly even though his program was
mellow piano music. I told him if he ever needed a cat barf imitation for one
of his recordings that I’d be available.
If Scott’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he used to record for Windham
Hill. After our gig we all went out to eat while he regaled us with stories
about meeting Will Ackerman and Michael Hedges. “You know who Michael Hedges
was, right?” He asks me, eyes sparkling. Are you kidding? If I was only half
the guitar player that he was, I’d be one happy folk singer.
In Gainesville Flash Silvermoon joined me on this cool machine that
replicated everything from congas to a full drum set. I especially enjoyed doing the
blues numbers with her. I almost felt like a rock band.
At the Silver Threads gathering in St. Petersburg I shared the bill with two
comics, Karen Ripley and Michele Balan. I’ll never look at a toilet seat the
same way again. Thanks, Karen. And Michele made 7-Up come out of my nose. I
should call her next time I have sinus problems.
I finished the tour with a performance with In Harmony, a vocal group from
Ft. Lauderdale. Everyone was so nice. I stayed with their director, Randy, who
has even larger cats than I do. I’ll bet one of them topped 20 pounds. And
what a sweetie he was. Both of them. He got up at 6 am to fix me breakfast
before I left. Um, Randy, not the cat. I doubt his cat can reach the stove. I
don't like kibble anyway.
The other gigs were great too, even if I had to do them all by my lonesome.
Bless the hardy little crowd that came to my house concert in Tampa and many
thanks to the nice women in Ft. Myers, including Annie who cooked me a great
meal. (I almost typed “coked” but no, I don’t lead that kind of life.)
Enough blabbing about the past, on to the future. Not only am I excited
about my upcoming gigs but I feel such hope for our country. I’m usually bored by
inaugurations but I was glued to the tube for this one, tears streaming down
my face. There’ll be a lot of work for all of us but at least we don’t have
a cluless a**hole running things. Oops, did I say that out loud?
I’m focusing on teaching this month but next month I’ll be heading out to
the east coast. I’m still looking for a gig in Ottawa so if you can help me,
give me a shout. Hope to see you at a show!
3. Never Assume has been re-issued
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My 1995 album, Never Assume, has been out of print for a few years but it’s
baaaaaack! You can get it soon at _www.cdbaby.com_ (http://www.cdbaby.com/)
and other fine outlets. I’ll have it at shows too. It features “When Cats
Take Over the World,” "Menstrual Tango” "When They Know Who We Are" and more.
Funny woman Lisa Koch produced this one.

4. Please help me raise funds for my new album
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As you can imagine, with this economy raising money has been slow. Keep in
mind that I need a lot less than 700 billion. I didn’t manufacture cars no one
wanted or give my CEOs huge bonuses or private jets. I AM the CEO and I
drive a 2002 Toyota. If you can help me with my newest album, I’d be very
grateful. It’s easy. Go to _www.jamieanderson.com_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/)
and click on the link on the home page that says “Help Jamie Put Out Her New
Album.” It’ll tell you how you can pay via PayPal or print out an order
form and mail in a check the old fashioned way. I’ll also have order forms at my
shows.
I’ve got a ton of new songs and a great studio picked out PLUS Kara Barnard
will be joining me on that multitude of instruments that she plays. I’ll go
into the studio in late this year or early next.
5. Free Jamie Anderson tapes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Almost free – it’s a mere $2 for shipping. There’s no other cost for this
Drive All Night tape. It’s a great quality, it’s just that it’s a tape and
hard to sell these days. Be sure to let me know your name and address: office
at jamieanderson dot com. You can send a check for $2 to PO Box 15003, Durham,
NC, 27704 or use the paypal button at _www.jamieanderson.com/music.html_
(http://www.jamieanderson.com/music.html) . While you’re there, download a few
free songs.

6. Live in Ottawa? Want a concert in your living room?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Canadians – do you want a concert in your living room? (Or know of a
venue with a listening crowd?) House concerts are easy – like giving a party
with live music. There’s no money up front – all of my pay comes from
admission. You’d just need at least 20 people to come. I’ve got Friday, April 3 open.
Contact me if you can help: office at jamieanderson dot com.
7. Camp Sisterspirit Needs Our Help
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Camp Sisterspirit is a great organization started by Brenda and Wanda Henson
that assists underserved populations in the Gulf region of Mississippi. For
fifteen years they’ve offered literacy classes, emergency food and clothing
(one of the few after Katrina), emergency rescue for pets, employment services
and much more. Right now, they’re working on continuing these services as
well as creating and expanding vegetable and fruit gardens to offer fresh
produce for those needing emergency food. They’re looking for folks who can work
on their land, offer funds and more. Check out _www.campsisterspirit.com_
(http://www.campsisterspirit.com/) .

9. The stories behind my songs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last month I had a great time telling you about the story behind my song “
Dark Chocolate.” This month I’ll tell you about “My Dad Loves to Sing.” It’s
one of my newer songs that you’ll find on my latest album Three Bridges.
My dad had a stroke about three years ago and this song is about him. It’s
all true except the part where I sing that he was watching Buck Owens on TV.
While Dad assures me that he likes ol’ Buck, he was actually watching the
Lawrence Welk Show. Since that doesn’t exactly go with the old country songs
theme, I used my poetic license and changed it.
Dad loves the song and makes all of his Republican friends listen to it. I
doubt any of them were inspired to vote for Obama but I think they like the
song. Dad says I should try to sell it to a big name country singer so I’ve
been trying to do that for the last year. So far, I haven’t gotten close. I’ve
been asking this at shows but I really mean it - if you have a connection to
ANYONE in mainstream country music, give me a shout. I don’t care if it’s
just Dolly Parton’s manicurist.
Is there a Jamie Anderson song you’d like to know more about? Write to me
and maybe I’ll cover it in a future newsletter.
10. Mailing list business
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are on this list because you signed up at a concert or went online and
signed yourself up. If neither of those things happened then someone has
forwarded you this newsletter. I do not add anyone without their permission nor is
this list sold to anyone else. If you'd like to unsub, I'll cry but I won't
make you pay my therapist bill. You can do it yourself at
_www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html) . Likewise
if you'd like to change your address. Please don't forward virus warnings,
news items, jokes or petitions. With over 2,000 of you on this list it'd be
too much to keep up with the extra mail. However, I love getting mail from
fans and answer when I can: tsunamiinc at aol dot com.

11. Ending quote

“I opposed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. It should be repealed and I
will vote for its repeal on the Senate floor. I will also oppose any proposal
to amend the U.S. Constitution to ban gays and lesbians from marrying.” --
President Barak Obama
Damn but it feels good to write “president” in front of his name.
