2. Welcome and general  blabbing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before  I go off on a multitude of mundane ramblings, I want to make sure
everyone of  legal age in the US is registered to vote. We can’t endure another
Republican  administration, especially one that thinks that proximity to Russia
equals  foreign relations experience. And while I’m on that topic, download
Michael  Moore’s new movie. I cried through half of it and laughed through the
rest. The  movie is free. The link is below. Pass it around.
It’s  starting to turn chilly here. I know many people wax poetic about fall
but I  hate it. It only means that winter is on its way and frigid weather
makes for a  moody Jamie. Growing up in the desert ruined me. Ah well, at least I
can look  forward to hot homemade chili and fresh cornbread.
I've  got a new video bio that I'm really proud of:
_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zduo-aoyii8_ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zduo-aoyii8)
My  thanks to everyone who came to my recent Durham gig. I have to admit it
was  a tough one, with many of my regular fans staying home on that rainy
night. I  played to a room full of disinterested Duke students, a few fans and a
couple of family members. The audience noise was so loud we had to crank  the
monitors up to ear-bleed level so my band members could hear each  other. I
work hard crafting my songs and my band labors many hours to  perfect them. It’s
why I love venues like the Pickers Supply Concert Hall in  Fredericksburg, VA,
where I’m playing on Friday. They listen. I’m more than that  TV that plays
in the background. AND you get to hear other singer-songwriters  and eat
homemade cookies in a comfortable setting. I know it’s a drive for many  of you but
if you can make it out, I’d sure appreciate it.
I’m  also looking forward to playing in Baltimore on Saturday. I haven’t
been there  in many years. In early November I’ll be back in the area at Jammin
Java in  Vienna, VA, sharing the bill with fab dance band Wicked Jezabel. I'm
excited about returning to the Carrboro Music Festival on Sunday. It's free
and  you can hear everything from punk to bluegrass on their many stages. In
October  I'll be playing in Raleigh for the first time in long while. Details
for these shows and more are above.
3. Please help me raise funding for my new  album
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m raising money for a new album. My fans have been generous in helping me
with albums in the past and I’m hoping you’ll pull through for me again. Go
to _www.jamieanderson.com_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/) and click on the
link that says “Help Jamie Put Out Her New Album.” It’ll tell you how you can
pay via PayPal or print out an order form and mail in a check the old
fashioned way. I’ve got a ton of new songs, a great engineer and studio picked out,
PLUS Kara Barnard will be joining me on that multitude of instruments that
she plays. I’m so excited about doing another recording.

5. McCain  videos
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know,  like me you’re probably overwhelmed with this kind of stuff but
these short  films are very well done and might be good to send to your
less-enlightened  friends and family members. The top one at _www.therealmccain.com_
(http://www.therealmccain.com/)  talks about his health and how he  was diagnosed
with skin cancer a few years ago, among other things. It’s not  just that the
guy’s older, but his health isn’t good and that would leave  you-know-who as
president. (But I shouldn’t worry because she’s so close to  Russia, right?)
The  Partridge Family is distraught over this one:
Go  ahead, you need a good laugh, right?
6. Help the New Jersey Four
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the summer of 2006 seven young African-American women came to New York
City from New Jersey to relax and have a good time. While walking the streets
minding their own business, a man hassled them, spit at them and threw a lit
cigarette on them. They were arrested. After spending almost a year in jail,
four of the women were sentenced by an all-white jury. The man who taunted
them is walking free. My friend Nedra Johnson is collecting money for them:

9. The stories behind my songs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last  month I had a great time telling you about the story behind my song “I
Wanna Be  a Straight Guy.” Now I’m going to blab about “Menstrual  Tango.”
My  friend Martie van der Voort wrote a very funny song called “Menstrual
Rag." I  thought maybe I should do a menstrual song – hey, it was the 80’s, that’
s what  feminist-lesbians did then – but I wanted mine to be a dance. I
looked in a  thesaurus under “dance” and came up with a list … waltz? Samba?
Fox-trot? No,  no, no. Tango? Hmm, that had a ring. I had no idea what a tango
might sound like  except that it was intense. I found a tango setting on a little
Casio keyboard  and borrowed some chords from a song out of the latest
SingOut! The words poured  out. Venting, really.
Most  audiences like the song but I was kicked off a stage in Roanoke, VA
once for  singing it. (There’s more to that story but I’ll save it for another
time.) At a  horrible gig at a NY college where almost no one listened to my
songs (why they  didn’t just turn on a radio, I’m not sure), a couple of very
tall drag queens  dramatically danced to it. It's always a bonus when I'm
entertained  also.
I  recorded this one for my Never Assume album then re-released it for  Three
Bridges. Lisa Koch produced the album. Any one who could write a  song called
“You Make My Pants Pound” has got to be a stitch, right? We laughed  so much
on this song it was a wonder I could make it through all my vocals. That
operatic background vocal is Lisa and it still cracks me up, years later. The
photo on the front page of my website is of me at the National Women’s Music
Festival and you guessed it, I’m laughing at my back-up singer (the fabulous
Tory Trujillo) as she warbles that same operatic trill.
10. Looking for Midwest venues for  November
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a few openings on my upcoming tour. If you know of a great place for
me to play in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, or Wisconsin,
please shoot me an email. It needs to have a listening crowd, a PA and more than
pass-the-hat-pay.  I’ll consider a house concert too (and I don’t need a PA
for those). E me: Jamie at jamieanderson dot com.

11. Looking for Florida venues for January
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m  also looking for venues in Florida for January. House concerts are great
if you  can seat 30 or more. E me for more info: Jamie at jamieanderson dot
com.
12. Still blogging at AfterEllen.com
I’ve  written mostly about music, from the new Buffy soundtrack to guitarist
Vicki Genfan’s win at a recent guitar contest (where she blew away the nine
male  contestants – go Vicki!).
13. Best ever video from the National Women's Music  Festival
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unlike the links I've posted in previous newsletters, this is not a slide
show but a video of the closing song at National. It brings me right back to
the  moment:

I hate crying on stage but I loved singing Maxine's song with everyone.
Here's the Andrea Gibson poem I refer to in my intro:

14.  Mailing list business
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You  are on this list because you signed up at a concert or went online and
signed  yourself up. If neither of those things happened then someone has
forwarded you  this newsletter. I do not add anyone without their permission nor is
this list  sold to anyone else. If you'd like to unsub, I'll cry but I won't
make you pay  my therapist bill. You can do it yourself at
_www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html) . Likewise
 if you'd like to change your address. Please  don't forward virus warnings,
news items, jokes or petitions.  With over 2,000 of you on this list it'd be
too much to keep up with the extra  mail. However, I love getting mail from
fans and answer when I can: tsunamiinc  at aol dot com.
15. Ending  quote
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my
hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look
down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess
a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you
have actual responsibilities.” – Sarah Palin
Way to go, dunderhead, devalue the important work of thousands of people.
Now register  to vote, people!
