2.  Welcome and general  blabbing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love  Durham in the  Spring. The city is bursting with hurt-your-eyes pink
azaleas and the trees are  dressed in that brilliant green you only see this
time of year.
Early April found me  still on tour, freezing my arse off. I had warm
audiences though, with 90 people  coming out to see me in Syracuse. I’ve played there
since I began  touring in the late 80’s and some of you have followed me
since then, bless your  chocolate-lovin’ hearts. The rest of the people looked a
little confused,  especially when I sang “Menstrual Tango” but most of them
quickly recovered. I  hope no one called 911.
I’ve already got  bookings for NY for Spring of 2009 so expect me to darken
your doorways  again.
The rest of the month  has been spent writing and teaching. One of my little
rocker dude guitar  students is writing a song for his girlfriend. I think it’
s his third for this  year.
I’m excited about my  upcoming gigs. This Saturday I’m debuting my new band,
Broad Street! We’ll  be at the Broad Street Café (no relation to the band
name) in Durham this Saturday. If  you’re a bellydancer, bring a hip sash ‘cause
we’re gonna need some dancing  girls for one of the numbers. Concert details
above.
Next weekend I’ll be  back in Columbia, SC on a shared bill with Dalton
Highway and  Liesl Downey. It’s been a year so I’m looking forward to returning
and to  hearing the other acts ‘cause they’re new to me. Later in the month I’
ll be  appearing at the faaaabulous Virginia Women’s Music Festival and whoo
hoo! I’m  bringing the band. You don’t wanna miss this festival. It includes my
favorite  dance band Wicked Jezabel, my fav latin/middle eastern/whatevah
fusion band  Paprika (oooh, my dancing shoes will be burnin’ up) as well as Tret
Fure,  Wishing Chair, Zoe Lewis, SONiA with Disappear Fear, and more.
For those of you in  Indiana and North Carolina – VOTE on  Tuesday!!
Hope to see you at a  show. Or in my dreams. Bring chocolate.
3. Whoo hoo! I’m a finalist!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The USA Songwriting Competition had the good taste to grant me finalist
status for my song “Your Mama Scares Me,” in the novelty category.
_www.songwriting.net/winners.html_ (http://www.songwriting.net/winners.html)  - look toward
the bottom of the page. Think Dolly Parton might want to record it now?
Maybe it’s better suited for Weird Al.

4. Article about women’s music at  AfterEllen.com

Check out the article I wrote:
_http://www.afterellen.com/music/2008/4/womensmusic101_ (http://www.afterellen.com/music/2008/4/womensmusic101)
I’ll be writing more for this site.

5. There’s a slide show of my song at You Tube!

(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3L0wHXioQk)
Have lunch before you watch it or your next meal will consist of nothing but
bars of imported chocolate. Uh, not that that's a bad thing.

6. Damn funny cat video

I especially enjoyed the cat yodeling.

7. Ways you can support my music
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks to my friend  Dave Nachmanoff for a similar list of suggestions in his
newsletter. He’s a  great singer-songwriter and guitarist, BTW,
_www.davenach.com_ (http://www.davenach.com/)   Lately he’s been touring with Al  Stewart (“
Year of the Cat”).
Anyway, here are the  ways you could support my work:
Put together a video  using one of my songs as the music, and post it to
YouTube. It could be a slide  show – feel free to use the photos at
_www.jamieanderson.com_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/)  - or live footage  of Fluffy and
Muffin set to “When Cats Take Over the World.” The possibilities  are endless.
Order some of my CDs (ask me about volume discounts) and  give them to all
your friends as presents. Mother’s Day is coming up. Just sayin  …
Organize a house concert and invite all your friends. Or bring a bunch  of
friends to hear me in concert. Word of mouth is my best promo tool. It’s not
like you’re gonna see me on American Idol or anything. Yeah, yeah, you only
watch public TV.
Put a link on your website or ask to be my friend on  MySpace.
Write a short review for either Amazon.com, my CDbaby.com pages,  or for any
music review site that accepts outside reviewers. It doesn’t have to  be
brilliant – “I love it, my houseplants love it, you’ll love it” would  suffice.
Contact your fav  coffeehouse, folk concert series, college or festival and
ask that they book me.
Give me the contact  information for your favorite local venue.
E my songs to friends.  There’s a bunch of free ones at
www.jamieanderson.com/music.html
8. I’m the featured performer at  www.indiegrrl.com!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know, I know, this has been in the last couple of newsletters but in case
you haven’t checked it out, or if you’re new to my list:
Check it out: _www.indiegrrl.com/featuredartist.htm_
(http://www.indiegrrl.com/featuredartist.htm) Damn cool that they would want to honor me.

9. Still looking for a baton twirling costume
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m still searching  for a baton twirling costume. I know they’re hard to
find in a size 12 (14 might  work too) but I’ve got the baton so I figure, I
should have the outfit. If you  haunt thrift stores or happen to know a size 12
baton twirler who doesn’t need  her costumes anymore, please give me a shout.
10. Mailing list business
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You are on this list because you signed up at a concert or went online and
signed yourself up. If neither of those things happened then someone has
forwarded you this newsletter. I do not add anyone without their permission nor is
this list sold to anyone else. If you'd like to unsub, I'll cry but I won't
make you pay my therapist bill. You can do it yourself at
_www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html) . Likewise
 if you'd like to change your address. Please don't forward virus warnings,
news items, jokes or petitions. With over 2,000 of you on this list it'd be
too much to keep up with the extra mail. However, I love getting mail from
fans and answer when I can: tsunamiinc at aol dot com.
