2. Welcome and general blabbing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last month I babbled on about the National Women’s Music Festival. They say
a picture is worth a thousand words so how about a lot of pictures? Check out
this slide show:
_http://youtube.com/watch?v=C5uwfAHqJxI_
(http://youtube.com/watch?v=C5uwfAHqJxI)
It really captures the energy of this wonderful festival. The recording you
hear was the song done at the end of the round robin on Sunday, the main
event that closes the festival. It wasn’t recorded professionally, just something
done on a small digital recorder. We had no rehearsal. I played a borrowed
guitar (thanks Ellis) and sang a song I’d never performed before. The song, “
Amazon,” was written by Maxine Feldman before some of the musicians on stage
were even born. It didn’t matter, though, we all sang it with energy and love
– a great way to honor Maxine, the festival and ourselves.
Now I’m about to head to another festival, to the Michigan Women’s Music
Festival. (Yeah, I know they spell it differently but I’m a writer and it just
looks wrong to write “womyn.” Please don’t throw anything unless it’s
imported dark chocolate that lands softly at my feet.) I’m not performing there
but I’ll be teaching songwriting and bellydance. I’ll also be running a
bluegrass jam and working for Goldenrod. Before all that, I’m catching a few gigs
in Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and Hart (MI). You can get tickets for the
Michigan show at _http://www.jamieanderson.com/tour.html_
(http://www.jamieanderson.com/tour.html) but only until July 30 (and no, you don’t have to be a guest
at the hotel nor do you have to be attending the festival.) Don't worry, we'll
have tickets at the door for all of the concerts. Y’all come out, ‘k?
Well, almost free. If you really don’t have the dough or if you’re new to
my music, you don’t need to pay. But if you’re a fan who doesn’t plan to buy
an album, please consider using the Paypal donation button. You’ll help keep
my cats in kibble.
I just re-recorded “Her Problem Now” with my band. It’s the first song on
that page.
6. Articles at AfterEllen.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m continuing to write recaps of So You Think You Can Dance:
_http://www.afterellen.com/blog/58173_ (http://www.afterellen.com/blog/58173)
I’ve also written about the ground breaking all-women’s band Fanny:
http://www.afterellen.com/music/2008/7/fanny?page=0%2C0
And an article about women’s music:
_http://www.afterellen.com/music/2008/4/womensmusic101_
(http://www.afterellen.com/music/2008/4/womensmusic101)
I’ll be writing more for them. Stay tuned.

7. Articles in Curve
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve also written a couple of articles for Curve for their July music
issue. It’s not available on line but you can pick up a copy now at your local hip
bookstore. One piece is about engineer Karen Kane and the other, about women’
s music. The latter article ends with a couple of paragraphs that my editor
didn’t understand as a joke and it looks like I’m saying that Cris
Williamson can’t sing anymore. Far from it! I’ve seen her twice just this year and
her voice is as great as ever. Fortunately, Cris and her manager have been very
understanding and the magazine is going to print a clarification in the next
issue. In spite of all that, I’m really proud of the article because it
gives a good overview of women’s music, a topic very dear to me.
8. Contest winners!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the last newsletter, I asked for funny captions for these photos.
Congrats to our winners! Each of them receives one of my CDs.
Joyce DeTurk sent this one:
"I'm swearing off the catnip. This is the LAST time I wake up in the
porcelain goddess!"
(Joyce, please email me. My email to you bounced.)
This one from Deb Smith:
“I've always wanted to go to the National Women's Music Festival. Do I have
to tell them about that Litter in Des Moines?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
9. Another contest – you could win a CD!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Send me an adorable photo of your pet. Supply a funny caption. The funniest
photo and caption wins a CD and gets published in the next newsletter.
Simple! Now get to work. We want to laugh. J

10. Looking for Midwest venues for November
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you know of a great place for me to play in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio,
Illinois, Indiana, or Wisconsin, please shoot me an email. It needs to have a
listening crowd, a PA and more than pass-the-hat-pay. I’ll consider a house
concert too (and I don’t need a PA for those). E me: Jamie at jamieanderson dot
com.
11. Mailing list business
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are on this list because you signed up at a concert or went online and
signed yourself up. If neither of those things happened then someone has
forwarded you this newsletter. I do not add anyone without their permission nor is
this list sold to anyone else. If you'd like to unsub, I'll cry but I won't
make you pay my therapist bill. You can do it yourself at
_www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter.html) . Likewise
if you'd like to change your address. Please don't forward virus warnings,
news items, jokes or petitions. With over 2,000 of you on this list it'd be
too much to keep up with the extra mail. However, I love getting mail from
fans and answer when I can: tsunamiinc at aol dot com.

12. Ending quotes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from George Carlin:
“Once you leave the womb, conservatives don’t care about you until you
reach military age.”
“If it’s true that our species is alone in the universe, then I’d have to
say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.”
“If a group of people stand around in a circle long enough, eventually they
will begin to dance.”
Sounds good to me!
Peace and shimmies,
-- Jamie
