Emily and Zoe
The one on the left I found a few years ago at a rest area near St. Louis.
She was so preggers she looked like a football with legs. Zoe is one of her
babies. The instrumental “Emily” (on A Promise of Light) is named after the
mama. She was supposed to write lyrics but you know how cats are about
following through.

2. Welcome and general  blabbing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I needed Dramamine for September. I had  the great pleasure of returning to
the Midwest  for a tour. I know a performer isn’t supposed to have favorites
but y’all! Could  Chicago and Pittsburgh have been any better? It’s always
great to hear other performers too. Tracy Drach rocks my world – check her out:
_www.MySpace.com/mstracydrach_ (http://www.myspace.com/mstracydrach)  ;  it
was a wonderful pleasure to hear her in Pittsburgh. I played mando and sang on a
couple  of her songs and people, it really makes me want to be part of a
band. If I  could just stop sleeping, I’d have some more time. I’ve done gigs a
few times on  very little sleep and I’m told I’m very funny then but I think I’
d rather  remember my performances.
The audience in Ft. Wayne was so sweet. I felt recharged and  thankful that
even though some of you didn’t know my work, you came out for the  show. (Or
maybe there just wasn’t anything on TV that night. Nah, you’re a  public radio
crowd, right?) It’s the first time I’ve ever been paid partly in  chairs.
Sophia’s Portico (www.sophiasportico.org), the organization who produced  the
show, is moving to another location and wanted to get rid of a few things,  so
viola! Chairs. Makes me happy I drive a truck.
And for the other shows – I appreciate  you too. ‘Cause really, it’s because
of you that I can do this job. I’d look  pretty silly playing in near-empty
venues. The wait staff enjoys my music, I’m  sure, but they need tips too. And
I need your energy. So thanks for coming to  the shows!
As enjoyable as the tour was, it was a  ton of driving and that was tough.
Thank the goddess airlinia that I can fly to  some gigs but it didn’t work for
this string of shows. The other downside to  last month’s crazy ride was that a
friend of mine died. Greg was a great guy --  part of my songwriting circle,
a fellow teacher at the Durham Arts Council, a  wonderful musician and one of
the nicest guys on the planet. He came to my house  warming last year. When he
first arrived, he was the only straight guy there. We  laughed a lot about
that. He settled in, enjoying the conversation and food.  After awhile, my
friend Tracy and his wife arrived, so we laughed some more  about how there were
TWO straight guys. Greg grinned and commented, “Well,  my shift is up” and left
the party. Rest in peace, buddy.
Recently a few of you have sent me  jokes and petitions. Please don’t do that
– there are almost 3,000 of you on  this list so that could make for a lot of
mail. J
If you recently purchased Three Bridges  you might want to check out the
extensive liner notes at _www.jamieanderson.com_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/)
Just click on the Three Bridges  album cover that's on the home page. And
while you’re there, click on the link  for the video for “My Dad Loves to Sing.”
It’s one thing to hear the song,  another to see photos of the musician I’m
singing about. And yeah, I’m a little  biased.
My birthday is this month. Whoo hoo!  I’m turning the big 5-oh. At least that’
ll be easy to remember. Last year I kept  telling folks I was turning 48. I
sure hope these hormones stop bumping around  soon ‘cause they’re making me
stooopid.
I don’t have any gigs this month but  I’ve got a ton of music and dance
classes starting in Durham. I also have some  openings for guitar students.
Details are below. November will find me in  Arizona and  damn, I’m excited to
return to my home state. I just confirmed details for a gig  with my buddy Slique
Callahan, one of the funniest women in the western world,  heck, the universe.
3. Airplay  on CarTalk!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The good folks at CarTalk played one of my songs! This is the fourth time,
bless their gas fueled hearts. They played “Drive All Night” during the show
this weekend (show number 200739). Here’s the proof:

4. Great video of September Peace Demonstration
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It didn’t get a whole lot of press –  gee are we surprised? This video gives
you a great overview of what happened  there and how millions of people feel
about this senseless war in  Iraq.
5. Yeah,  I’m a big damn writer – see this issue of SingOut!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For those of you thinking “Huh?” – SingOut! is a fabulous folk music
magazine. I’m also a music journalist and I’ve got some work in the newest issue,
Autumn 2007 (the one with Ry Cooder on the cover). I had the pleasure of
interviewing SONiA of Disappear Fear. Also, I reviewed some CDs, including Amy
Carol Webb’s “Naked, No Tricks.” It’s an excellent album of story songs and
anthems by one of my favorite writers. _www.amycarolwebb.com_
(http://www.amycarolwebb.com/)
They have a website - _www.singout.org_ (http://www.singout.org/)  - but you’
ll have to buy the magazine to read everything.
If you wanna see more, I wrote a review of a great ska/rock album by Danan
Healy for Indie-Music.com. You can see it at

(http://www.indie-music.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=6456)
And nope, I really don’t want to marry her but whoo doggie, it’s a great
album.
