2. Welcome and general blabbing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I’m not touring I teach guitar. Last Sunday my students gathered in a
small theater to show their family and friends what they’ve learned. They kicked
all kinds of musical butt and I felt like the proud mama as each one took the
stage. Whether they were presenting a shaky version of “Skip to My Lou” or a
confident Jimmy Buffet song, they all got a roar of approval from the crowd.
I performed with each one, adding a rhythm guitar, a lead part, some mandolin
or a vocal. At one point, ten of them got up and played a blues jam that had
everyone tapping their feet. I got to play lead on that one – something I don’
t often do – and even found myself making ‘guitar face’ when I bent the
higher notes. What a great night! I was in 17 different bands and some of the
members were in the fourth grade.
Now this Friday, my bellydance students will be making their big public
debut, at a dance event. They looked so beautiful in rehearsal on Monday night. I
can’t wait to see them shine tomorrow evening.
There’s my other gig too – the one that most of you know me from. I’ll be
taking off on tour in mid March, visiting New York and New England. It’s been a
while since I’ve been up that way and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve
got some new songs I think you’ll like. When I come back in April, I’ve got a
couple of Raleigh-Durham gigs lined up. I sure hope you can come out to hear
me.
And ta da! I have a MySpace page! www.MySpace.com/jamieandersonmusic  I need
friends, y’all so ask me, ‘k?
I’ve been catching up with old friends recently and just heard from Jim
Henry, the guy who produced my Drive All Night album. Not only is he a great
guitarist but he’s one of the nicest guys on the planet. That’s him you hear
laughing with me at the end of “I Wanna Be a Straight Guy.” He’ll be touring with
Mary Chapin Carpenter soon. Ain’t that fabulous? One of my favorite guitar
players with one of my favorite songwriters? Hot damn! Mary Chapin has a new album
out and folks, I can’t wait to own it. Hey, my birthday’s in October! Just
sayin’ …
I hate to bring this up in every newsletter but I still need funds for my
next album. I’ve raised half the money – thanks to everyone who’s helped – so I
just need the other half to make this thing go. Won’t you help me celebrate
20 years of touring with this retrospective album? There’s an order form below.
Hope to see y’all out at a show or on MySpace!
4. I have a MySpace page!
Won’t you be my friend? Get tour updates, listen to songs and see pics that
aren’t on my regular site. I’m also blogging:
5. Do you live in CT, MA or NY and can help with concert promotion?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Since I don’t have Sony’s budget, word of mouth is the best way to promote
my concerts. If you can send emails about my gigs to your friends you would get
my eternal gratitude and hey, that’s worth about a dollar fifty on eBay. I’d
love your help especially if your friends are near Leverett, MA, NYC, or
Hartford, CT. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

6. Another video with my cat song
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_l0kenscB3A
This one is from Brazil, done by an organization that rescues cats from the
streets of Sao Paulo. There are still photos and some video of the cats they've
saved. These are real cats, not felines who posed for cute pictures in a
photography studio. I hope they raise lots of money.
I’ve been getting a lot of emails from Brazil and this song and video may be
the reason. Cool, eh? This morning I got an email from Finland. Hey, I’m world
famous!
7. Looking for someone to video tape my performance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That original video with my cat song has received over 130,000 views on
YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b72rZrbOhN4 Whoo hoo! Now I’m wondering if
I can put one of my performances up there. Do you have a video camera and have
the knowledge to post a video on YouTube? I’d love to talk with you!

8. Please help me get festival and large event bookings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve mailed my audition package to several organizers and right about now,
many are making decisions for this year. If you could take the time to let them
know that you’d be more likely to attend their festival if I was playing, I
would be very grateful.
10. Steve Goodman book
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I’m a big fan of singer-songwriter-guitarist Steve Goodman and I’m really
excited that there’ll be a book coming out about him soon. The author has been
so kind as to quote me on a couple of pages. www.clayeals.com

Steve Goodman’s most famous song is “City of New Orleans” and was recorded
by Arlo Guthrie. He wrote so many more great tunes. He was an amazing
songwriter, a wonderful guitarist and damn funny. His work has been a big inspiration
to me. I only hope that I can be as great an entertainer as he was.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
11. Song requests
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I love doing song requests at shows but my memory sucks the family dog out
loud. If there’s a particular song of mine that you’d like to hear, email me
the request and the show you’re planning to attend. Request "Stairway to Heaven"
and I will pummel you with an organic carrot. tsunamiinc at aol.com

12. Mailing list business
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are on this list because you signed my mailing list at a concert or
otherwise asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will
change soon, you can update your subscription at
www.jamieanderson.com/newsletter. To reach me directly, write to jamie at jamieanderson.com. Please don't
forward jokes, news items, virus warnings or petitions. I love personal notes from
fans, though, and try to answer every email. I do not share the mailing list
with anyone else. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends,
especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. Thanks!
13. The ending quotes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“I find songwriting to sometimes be like sending postcards to your future
self. You write something and you’re not quite sure what it means until six
months or a year later and you go, ‘Ahhh, now I get it!” – Rosanne Cash

“I’ve had people come up and say, ‘I would like to be a singer-songwriter,’
and my first advice is ‘Stop saying “I would like to be” and start saying “
I am.”’ The perception of something eventually happening is just as elusive
as a cloud. If you are a singer-songwriter, then you start looking for ways to
be that. There is no guarantee it will pay the bills, but if it’s who you are,
then go on and admit it.” – Amy Grant

Peace and chocolate y’all.
