SHAKEN is a 28-minute documentary following one young man's struggle and
courageous experience living with an incurable illness. Paul Schroder first
noticed something wrong when he was in college and couldn't lift his left
arm. A few years later, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

"I always knew there was something different about Paul," his father confides
to the viewer in the beginning of the film. He graduated at the top of his
college class, and shortly thereafter was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
After living with the disease for a dozen years, Paul's toes have curled up like
snails and he is unable to function 90% of the time. The side effects of the
21 pills a day he takes are as bad as the symptoms he suffers. The only
medical treatment option left is Deep Brain Stimulation, a radical 14-hour surgery
that turns Paul into a Bionic Man. While he lies awake on the operating table
singing "On Top of Spaghetti," doctors probe his brain with a foot-long
electrode listening for bad cells, and implant a neurostimulation device under his
collarbone so Paul is wired all the time. The bittersweet results of this
electrifying surgery are mysterious, transformative and nothing short of miraculous.

SHAKEN was filmed, produced, written and directed by Deborah Fryer, founder
of Lila Films, Inc., a documentary production company in Boulder, Colorado.
Deborah has worked on documentaries for PBS, NOVA, Frontline, MSNBC, History
Channel, Travel Channel, National Audubon Productions, Turner Superstation,
Discovery Channel, F1 Productions,HGTV, and Free Speech TV. Deborah holds a
Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and Classics from Princeton University, and has
lived and worked in 37 countries. SHAKEN is her first independent film. Edited
by Hanneh Rudkilde.Featuring music by Tracy Bonham http://www.tracybonham.com/

3. Please help Camp Sisterspirit, correction to last newsletter
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As many of you know, they were hit hard by Katrina. Mississippi isn't getting
as much press as Louisiana and I suspect, not as much money. The FEMA money
they finally got covered almost nothing. There are still many repairs to be
made. All that plus one of the organizers is very sick. Please help them out.
Visit their website and see all the great work that they do. While you're there,
you can make a donation via PayPal. There's also a PO Box listed if you want
to send them a check. http://www.campsisterspirit.com Please note that the
address in last month's newsletter was wrong.
